This new opportunity has come about from an transformation project and a move to bring previous outsourced work inhouse on our Essex highway maintenance contract. The Bridge Inspector will be responsible for undertaking highway structure inspections and supporting the Senior Inspector with inspection reporting across the Essex highway network. The successful candidate must have +3 years’ experience completing bridge inspections and ideally hold a relevant degree to support their practical knowledge with health and training safety to support.
Location: Chelmsford, CM1 1GF (limited office attendance, site focused)
THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL HAVE;
o Experience of leading structure inspections and checking inspection reports
o Working towards LANTRA Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme (NHSS31) - desirable
o A degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or equivalent practical experience
o Good understanding of inspection codes and standards
o Ability to assess risk and proposing mitigation measures when safety defects are identified
o Ability to work in water, willingness to work at height and/or confined spaces
o UK - Full Driving Licence (no more than 6 points)
YOU WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
o Checking Inspection Reports
o Preparation of Safe Systems of work for the undertaking of inspections
o Undertaking General Inspection of highway structures
o Undertaking Principal Inspection of highway structures
o Accurate identification and reporting of defects
o Immediate reporting of safety defects
o Inputting defect information and photographs into the bridge inspection database (BridgeStation)
o Responding to customer enquiries and preparation of response to FOI
o Emergency Call out following bridge strike
o Deputising for Senior Inspector when needed
